An excellent deal. May 13, 2007 They are a great deal for the money. I solder them instead of using the set screw.
Belkin AV24000 November 27, 2006 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
In searching around the web I found many links listing the Belkin AV24000 connectors as solderless. However [...] did not advertise solder or solderless. I found one review by the "Speark Wire Guy" and I agree with him that these plugs are not designed for crimping but appear to be designed for use with solder.
If you are comfortable with using a soldering iron these connectors are excellent. When soldering use a high heat setting and hobby vice clamps, alligator clips or pliers. This prevents excessive heat from traveling to and possibly weakening the leaf spring contact at the opposite end of the banana plug. The advantage of soldering is that soldering insures the wires are not loosend because of vibration or movement resulting in a degraded signal.
I like the fact that these banana plugs are precisely made and fit snugly into the speaker or amplifier terminals so they are not easily pulled out. Another thing to consider is this connectors extend 1.25" out from the speaker terminal and may interfere with the wall or mount on some surround speakers. The suppliers of this product were a bit slow about shipping. I found this the Belkin AV24000 PUREAV Banana Plugs to be of very good quality and value. Only flaw is lack of information from Belkin and product packaging on how to install the wires into this item.
Waste of Money September 7, 2006 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
You're supposed to be able to crimp these to the ends of your speaker wires. Trouble is, the metal is so brittle that it cracks during crimping, The wires won't hold and the whole thing falls apart. I bought 5 packs and had to throw them all away. Don't waste your money. Spend a few more bucks for the twist on banana plugs.
